Afro-Mystik's sound is as eclectic as its chemic group members. Hailing from the Bay Area, this ingathering of musicians blends rap, hobo camp, jazz, and samba rhythms to make a down-tempo, soothing blending of mixed beats and lyrics. Chris Smith, aka DJ Fluid, takes the helm on production and keyboards, with Liana Young and Ismail Azim lending vocals and rhymes. Mr. Bungle's Trevor Dunn is on basso, spell Simone White (Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy and Omar Sosa) ar on drums and Carlos Araiza takes aid of percussion. In 1999, Afro-Mystik released their number one CD, Next Tropic, on Om Records. The label is ill-famed for its maintenance of Bay Area producers and DJs such as Mark Farina and Soulstice. The second Afro-Mystik record album, Morphology, was released in April 2003.

Pop review: Carla Bruni, Comme Si De Rien N'Etait

Carla has what's expected from French pop divas: stunning looks, husky vocals and songs about les amours d'antan. It worked a care for on her folksy 2003 debut, simply here she mopes betwixt MOR flavours; cafe swing, string quartet, dreary waltzes and false blues. The songs experience their moments, but their creator sounds as sulkily uninvolved as a theoretical account at a boorish party.
